The purpose of RADR is to determine the prevalence of recurrence of primary immunologic/metabolic diseases or appearance of immunologic disease de novo and its impact on graft function.
Preliminary analysis from the University of Cincinnati and the Medical College of Wisconsin has shown recurrent/de novo disease in 6.3% of renal transplant recipients. Patients with recurrent disease had a lower long-term graft survival. Additional data in RADR will permit quantitative assessment of the risk to individuals and the development of management stragtegies to improve outcome. Four centers are currently participating.
The Registry has had a paper published in the American Journal of Kidney Disease (1998;31:928-931), "Recurrent and de novo renal diseases after renal transplantation."
