Renal Allograft Disease Registry (RADR)

(formerly: Renal Allograft Recurrent Disease Registry)

Location: Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee
Director: Sundaram Hariharan, MD
Address: Medical College of Wisconsin
Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital
9200 West Wisconsin Avenue
Milwaukee, WI 53226

The purpose of RADR is to determine the prevalence of recurrence of primary immunologic/metabolic diseases or appearance of immunologic disease de novo and its impact on graft function.

Preliminary analysis from the University of Cincinnati and the Medical College of Wisconsin has shown recurrent/de novo disease in 6.3% of renal transplant recipients. Patients with recurrent disease had a lower long-term graft survival. Additional data in RADR will permit quantitative assessment of the risk to individuals and the development of management stragtegies to improve outcome. Four centers are currently participating.

The Registry has had a paper published in the American Journal of Kidney Disease (1998;31:928-931), "Recurrent and de novo renal diseases after renal transplantation."

Goals

  1. To establish a prototype for a comprehensive data base of recurrent disease.
  2. To determine the incidence of recurrence of several common renal diseases, such as focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, IgA nephropathy, diabetic nephropathy, membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis, and membranous nephropathy.
  3. To initiate studies that will aid in understanding of the basic pathophysiology of these recurrences and treatment to modify the natural course of the disease.
