CLINICAL TRIALS REGISTRY

Invitation

A message from Daniel R. Salomon, MD, and John Roberts, MD

Subject: One important project for CenterSpan is the establishment of two new resources for transplantation research:

  1. a registry for clinical trials, and
  2. a registry for scientific models and resources.

Purpose: There is presently no central information site for ASTP and ASTS members to quickly determine what kinds of clinical trials are presently going on in our transplant programs. This information in a readily searchable format would be very useful for deciding what kind of transplantation trials need to be done and for identifying other Society members with expertise and experience in any area proposed for a new trial. Similarly, a registry of scientific models and resources could be used to identify the scope of different transplantation models available, determine the experts to call for assistance in developing and using such models and establish new collaborations to take advantage of such expertise.

Protected Access: We recognize that this information should be protected. Thus, only Society members with security clearance to use CenterSpan will be allowed to view the Clinical Trial and Scientific Model Registries. Moreover, we are not requesting much detail, so that issues of Confidentiality and Proprietary Information with the drug and biotechnology companies should not be impacted. However, any concerns on this subject should be discussed with the specific companies.

Process: We will create several ways for you to enter your information. A survey form will initiate the registry at the 1997 ASTP and ASTS annual meetings in Chicago. Completed forms can be handed in at the CenterSpan booth during the meetings, and forms will be available there. We also have an online entry form that can be used during the meetings and later when you return home to update and extend the information. Finally, you can always mail us material if it is convenient (CenterSpan, 6900 Grove Road, Thorofare, NJ 08086). Of course, this is just a start and we look forward to your input on improving the quality and value of these forms.

Remember that the value of any Registry is determined by the quality and scope of the material submitted. Everyone in CenterSpan and our Society Councils appreciate your time and effort to participate. If you have any questions, suggestions, or would like to help work on the future development of these Registry efforts, please don't hesitate to contact us. See you all in Chicago!
