SangCya OKd in Germany

CITY · April 15, 2000· by TNN Medical Reporter Virginia Baskerville

FREMONT, Calif.-SangStat has announced that SangCya, its oral cyclosporine solution, has been approved in Germany.

The California-based company said that it plans to launch SangCya in Germany in June.

The approval came through the European Community Mutual Recognition Procedure for obtaining regulatory approval in multiple member states of the European Union. In this case, the United Kingdom served as the reference member state.

"The approval in Germany is significant because generic products account for an estimated 40% of German pharmaceutical sales in units," SangStat said in a statement on April 10. The oral cyclosporine market accounts for more than 12% of the $100 million cyclosporine market in Germany.
