AST and HHS Create Public Service Announcement on Organ Donation
MOORESTOWN, N.J.--December 15, 2000· by TNN Medical Reporter Virginia Baskerville

The American Society of Transplantation and the Department of Health and Human Services have created a new public service announcement with a call for increased awareness of organ and tissue donation.

The PSA features Walter Payton's widow, Connie Payton, along with clips of the former football player's outstanding game achievements. Payton, a legendary running back for the Chicago Bears, died at age 45 last year after developing a rare liver disease.

The PSA was created for distribution to donor advocacy organizations for use in their ongoing awareness efforts, the American Society of Transplantation said in a statement.
