Organ Allocation:
Legislators' Views

November 1, 1998 · by TNN Medical Reporter Virginia Baskerville

Transplant News Network reported in the news briefs for October 15 that the proposed government rules to change the way donor organs are allocated have been blocked from being enacted for a year.

To see how legislators have weighed in on the debate, see www.rollcall.com/policybr/policybr.html. For an essay on why the government should not control the organ system, scroll down to "Keep Big Brother Out of Organ System" by House Appropriations Committee Chairman Bob Livingston (R-La.). For the opposite point of view, scroll down to "Clinton's Policy Change Actually Makes Sense" by Senator Rick Santorum (R-Pa.).
