PPO Launches Transplant Network

NEW YORK · November 1, 1999 · by TNN Medical Reporter Virginia Baskerville

The preferred provider organization MultiPlan, based here, has launched an organ transplant network for its 23 million members.

More than 100 transplant facilities in 28 states are participating in the new network.

The program is designed to help "families and payors cope with the enormous financial, physical, and emotional strains of transplant surgery," said Multiplan's Sorin Davis. The network is offering a new methodology for pricing services at the pretransplant phase, the transplant phase, and the posttransplant phase of transplantation.

"Savings for clients will be available through global contracts covering all phases of the transplant procedures or through per diems or percentages of savings off charges for the individual phases," MultiPlan said.
