Youngest Heart-Lung Recipient Dies 16 Years Later

OKLAHOMA CITY · April 15, 2001 · by TNN Medical Reporter Virginia Baskerville

A 25-year-old woman who in 1985, at age 9, became America's youngest recipient of a heart-lung transplant died on April 8, news services have reported.

The Associated Press and Scripps Howard News Service said that the woman, Kimberly Fuller, died at her home in Oklahoma. The cause of death was not reported.

Mr. Fuller underwent her 1985 surgery at Pittsburgh's Children's Hospital. She reportedly received a second lung transplant in 1994. Both news services said that at the time of Ms. Fuller's death doctors were hoping to list her for another heart transplant because they suspected the arteries in her heart were becoming blocked.
